The Police in Masaka district this week arrested a man who exhumed the remains of his mother and some relatives, and sold off the family graveyard for sh2.7m.

The suspect identified as Kabano, a resident of Kyalusowe village in Mukungwe sub-county, reportedly sold the land to Ssalongo Mugandaazi, who claims to be a State House employee.

The district Police commander, Henry Kavuma, said the LC1 vice-chairperson, Pascal Njirunda, who witnessed the transaction, was also arrested.

He said Kabano exhumed the remains without the family’s consent, adding that the suspects would be charged accordingly.

Kabano told the Police that Njirunda lured him into selling the graveyard. On tiop of that, he said he had already been given a sh1.5m deposit for the land.
