10. The ricin’s fate is revealed
For all its discussion over the course of the series, ricin had never
been successfully deployed in the Breaking Bad universe. But as
Chekov’s laws mandate, Breaking Bad couldn’t end until the poison—more
specifically the vial that Walt initially intended for Gus Fring—had
found a victim. In the series finale, that victim proves to be a
deserving target: Lydia, whose Stevia obsession (and penchant for
murder) proved to be her downfall.
9. Walt, Skylar, Hank and Marie have the world’s most awkward double-date
As well as Breaking Bad handles scenes of incredible tension, Vince
Gilligan and his writing staff proved themselves equally adept at
creating incredibly awkward moments. In the first half of the fifth
season, there was the dinner with Walt, Skylar and Jesse. This time
around, Hank and Marie replace Jesse—this time at a popular Mexican
restaurant—but the end result is no less painful to watch—and no, they
don’t want any chips for the table.
8. Walt decides to seek vengeance
By the season’s penultimate episode, the once-great-and-powerful is
little more than a memory, and Walter White appears little more than a
man broken by isolation and terminal
cancer. When he travels to a local
New Hampshire
bar, it appears he has every intention of allowing himself to be
arrested and brought to account for his countless crimes. But upon
seeing old nemeses Gretchen and Elliot Schwartz on TV, Walt decides he
has one more fight left in him, as the show’s theme song marks his
imminent return to New
Mexico.
7. Jesse throws away his money—literally
For all the internal struggle that each character endured throughout
the final season, none appeared more battered, bruised and broken than
Jesse. Still reeling from Mike’s disappearance in the season’s first
half, Jesse was entirely unmoored during the second half of the
season—culminating in the fateful night when he drives down a local
street, chucking his millions out of his car window like a paperboy.
6. “Hello, Carol.” Walter White returns home
With anticipation at a near-fever pitch, the second half of Breaking
Bad’s final season began right where the first one left off: in the
future. Walt takes his beat up Volvo and comically-sized machine gun
back to the White family residence, only to find it condemned, tagged
and inhabited by group of teenaged skateboarders. But if there was any
concern that the man better known as Heisenberg had lost his swagger,
his simple greeting to his neighbor served as ample reminder of how he
became the most feared man in New Mexico.

5. Walt fights with Skylar and loses his family forever
In a season defined by uncomfortably jarring moments, perhaps none
was more so than Walt and Skyler’s violent fight in “Ozymandias.”.
Tensions between Walt and Skyler had been simmering for most of the
series but had never turned physical—till now. When Skyler grabbed the
kitchen knife, stakes were raised in a way they had never been for the
embattled couple, and the fact that Walt Jr. and Holly were present
didn’t help matters much. Oh, and neither did Walt taking Holly once the
fight was over.
4. Todd kills Andrea
If Hank’s death was the most moving, Andrea’s was the most senseless.
Guilty of nothing but caring for Jesse, Andrea is murdered in cold
blood by Todd—who proves himself every bit as much the sociopathic
sadist as his Uncle Jack. And we see that expression again of anguish
once more, this time on Jesse’s face.
3. Hank confronts Walt
When Hank found Gale’s copy of
Leaves of Grass inscribed to
Walt, we knew the DEA agent would soon reveal that his brother-in-law is
the infamous Heisenberg. Most shows would drag out this development for
half a season, but Hank attacked Walt in the Schrader family garage
before the conclusion of first episode.
2. Uncle Jack kills Hank and Steve
“Ozymandias” was the consensus pick for the best episode of
television in 2013 (and Gilligan himself called it Breaking Bad’s best
episode), and the handling of Hank and fellow DEA agent Steve Gomez’s
deaths was a big reason why. From the moment the two traveled with Jesse
out to the desert to apprehend Walt, it became clear that doom wasn’t
far behind. Though we don’t see the actual moment that Gomez dies, Hank
remains defiant until his last breath—and we can see the anguish on
Walt’s face when Uncle Jack reaffirms his true colors (that face is a
rather familiar one).

1. Heisenberg’s triumph
Perhaps no season finale in the history of television has invited as
much speculation as Breaking Bad’s “Felina,” but no one could have
predicted the show’s explosive end. Thanks to that enormous machine gun
we saw in the very first episode of Season 5, Walt had his revenge
against Uncle Jack, while Jesse finally turned the tables on Todd.
Perhaps most fittingly, Jesse escaped to a new life and Walt died in his natural environment: a meth lab.
We have done numerous lists of people and things that have had a
great influence on man and they are always popular, so today we are
presenting another list of influential people – but this time, they are
people who never existed. There were hundreds of people to choose from,
so this has been a fun list to compile. We hope you agree with our
choices, but if you don’t, feel free to use the comments to tell us who
you would have put here instead.
What child has not been frightened into behaving thanks to the
ever-present youthful fear of Santa not providing come Christmas?
Almost all western children were told by their parents that Santa would
leave them nothing if they misbehaved. I speak from experience when I
say that it was one of the most effective methods of stopping tantrums!
Funnily enough, though, the fear always dissipates on Christmas Eve as
you just know that Santa will be coming – even if you did slip up a few
times.
As Barbie has progressed from a pretty young woman to whom all girls
could aspire, to something often verging on the likeness of a harlot,
one can wonder whether it was Barbie influencing children, or children
influencing Barbie. There are certainly many similarities. Barbie has
depicted almost every possible female lifestyle choice and I think there
can be no doubt that she has been at the start of the path many women
have taken in life.
This could potentially lead to a debate about whether Hood existed or
not, but I am of the opinion that he did not. Therefore, he is listed
as my number eight on the list. I am sure we have all heard someone
justifying theft because the victim is wealthy – and where did this
justification come from? Not just the principles of redistribution of
wealth that many of us live under in Western Society (read envy taxes)
but the fact that to this day, we are all raised believing Robin Hood
was a hero – when, in fact, he was a thief. Stealing is almost always
wrong, and just because Robin Hood gave the proceeds of his crimes to
poor people, it is not a valid justification. As for the previously
mentioned taxes, there is every reason for us to believe that the
majority of people accept these taxes because of their prior belief in
the false morality of the Robin Hood story.
This is one for the boys obviously! Even in remote New Zealand where
I grew up, all the boys played “Cowboys and Indians”. The cowboy was a
great hero with a shining gun who represented the morality of Western
ideals: manliness, defense of justice, protection of women and children.
No doubt many now cringe at the lack of political correctness involved
in the game and stereotype, but kids aren’t politically correct (thank
God) and certainly won’t be hindered because of it. The influence of the
Cowboy movie genre is indisputable an immense one. Oh – and for those
who say “but cowboys are real!” – yes – but this is about the concept –
not about a specific person – just as we might say Santa existed as St
Nicholas, the concept is bigger than any one person.
How many men reading this list who smoke, are smoking cigarettes with filters? Venturing a guess I would say all of them.
Before the Marlboro Man campaign began, “real men” didn’t smoke
cigarettes with filters – they were for women. The aim of the Marlboro
Man campaign was primarily to get men smoking filtered marlboro
cigarettes. The influence of the campaign is abundantly clear today.
The campaign is considered to be one of the best in all history.
According to Wikipedia, it transformed a feminine campaign, with the
slogan ‘Mild as May’, into one that was masculine, in a matter of
months.
And now another for the girls! Rosie the Riveter may not be a
familiar name, but her picture certainly is. Rosie the Riveter told
women that they can do anything – and they did! Rosie managed to
motivate an entire generation of working-age women to get out of the
home and in to factories to help the war effort. This is probably one
of the most influential events of the Second World War. Once the
floodgates of women working were open, they would never be closed again.
All women working in traditional male jobs have Rosie to thank.
In a short 24 hours, you can fly from one side of the planet to
another. This (one of man’s greatest achievements) may never have
happened if it had not been for the mythological characters Daedalus and
Icarus. The story tells of Daedalus building mechanical wings for his
son Icarus and ever since the tale was told, man has lusted after the
ability to take the sky and fly. This eventually came true and the
entire planet is a changed place as a consequence of it.

The Little Engine That Could
The moral of this children’s tale is that self-belief, optimism, and
hard work result in achievement – of even the most difficult tasks. The
book first appeared in a slightly different version to today, in 1906.
It has been regarded by many as a metaphor for the “American Dream”.
The popularity of this book may also be a contributing factor to the
huge number of self-help and “positive thinking” seminars and books that
we see today.
A relatively modern addition to this list, Big Brother has been a
influence in so many social protests that he has to be included here.
His name comes up every time a government passes a restrictive law or a
law which seems to remove aspects of our eternal freedoms. Everyone
recognizes his face, everyone knows what he stands for, and everyone is
terrified of the potential for our own lives to be governed by our own
version of the fictional character. Big Brother was, of course, created
by George Orwell for his novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.
Not only can Romeo and Juliet be blamed for much of our ideas of the
“perfect relationship” – I think it can also be blamed for a high
percentage of divorces. Couples going in to marriage seek the ideal of a
relationship based entirely on passion and romance, and when that
romance dims (as so often is the case) they feel cheated and believe the
marriage has failed. When in reality, passionate romance is not
required for a healthy marriage – while respect, love, and charity is.
Romeo and Juliet have much to answer for!
When we’re feeling really low there are few things better than
comfort foods to cheer us up and make things seem okay again. At the
same time if we just want to relax then some comfort food is a great way
to do that. Here we will look at what the top 10 comfort foods so that
you can feel relaxed and happy on demand. Feeling down and need a pick
me up? Then hopefully something below will supply the inspiration you
are looking for.
10 Mashed Banana: If you haven’t tried mashed
banana then you’re missing out – it’s one of the best dishes in its own
right and certainly one of the top 10 comfort foods. To make it simply
take a banana that’s going old, mash it with a fork, pour milk on it,
and then sprinkle it in sugar. One of the things that makes this one of
the top 10 comfort foods has to be the amount of dopamine in the bananas
which is a feel good hormone, and along with the soft texture this
makes it blissful to enjoy.
9 Soup: There’s nothing quite like warm soup and
it’s a favourite among the ill (one of the top 10 comfort foods for
colds). Chicken and tomato have to take the crown as most comforting.
8 Ice Cream: Again it’s incredibly soothing, but
also full of sugar which makes any kind of ice cream up there with the
top ten comfort foods.
7 Cereal: Both the fibre and the sugar can lift
your spirits when you enjoy cereal as one of the top 10 comfort foods,
and at the same time its being thirst quenching and filling also makes
it extra satisfying.
6 Pizza: Pizza is a different kind of comfort food
but one of the top ten comfort foods nonetheless – perfect for slobbing
out in front of the TV with.
5 Sponge Cake: If the definition of comfort food is
soft and sweet, then few things can compete with sponge cake making it
definitely one of the top 10 comfort foods.
4 Chocolate: The favourite comfort food of many,
and able to produce the same chemicals as being in love meaning you
really do feel safe and comforted when you eat some.
3 Peanut Butter on Toast: There’s something oddly
inviting about peanut butter and it’s something you can eat at any time
of day without feeling too guilty. This makes peanut butter one of the
top 10 comfort foods by far.
2 Porridge: Porridge is perfectly designed for
colds or miserable days in. It’s highly warm, it has a soft oaty texture
and you can cover it in sugar. A top 10 comfort foods dead cert.
1 Hot Chocolate: Hot chocolate however tops the top
10 comfort foods list by taking the warmth of porridge and then
combining it with the texture of soup and the sweetness of chocolate. At
the same time you can enjoy it with cream and marshmallows – also great
foods that just missed out on the top 10 comfort foods list – and the
way you can nurture it for heat beats anything you eat from a bowl or
plate.
Hey there fight fans! Craving a good fight but nothing good on TV?
Well don’t worry, if you know where to look there are plenty of great
fights captured on celluloid. Boxing films of course, but also wrestling
films, MMA films and more. Here we will look at the top 10 best fight
films of all time that are great sports films in general, but also a
great place to see some fisticuffs.
10 The Wrestler
A great character study of a washed up wrestler played by Mickey
Rourke who was undergoing something of a comeback of his own at the
time. The almost biopick nature of the film is partly what makes this
one of the top 10 best fight films as it allows Rourke to really sell
the emotional elements.
Top 10 Best Fight Films – The Wrestler
9 The Fighter
Both Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale give fine performances in this
gritty boxing drama that takes big cues from the Rocky series and gives
it a modern feeling.
Top 10 Best Fight Films – The Fighter
8 Never Back Down
An under-rated MMA film that is probably what you’d get if you stuck
American Pie and Rocky in a blender. It still packs an emotional punch
though and it has a great soundtrack to go with some very powerful
choreography.
Top 10 Best Fight Films – Never Back Down
7 Rocky 3
It’s one of the top ten best fight scenes purely for being so classic
and so loved and for having so many moments that are now cinematic
legend. From the introduction of ‘Thunder Lips’ to the iconic ‘Eye of
the Tiger’ track that opens the film.
Top 10 Best Fight Films – Rock 3
6 Rocky 4
Rocky 4 is 80s cheese at full throttle and is essentially a
protracted music video. It’s still classic enough though to consider it
one of the top 10 best fight films, and Rocky Balboa versus Drago has to
be one of the best versus bouts in film.
Top 10 Best Fight Films – Rock 4
5 Million Dollar Baby
No doubt Clint Eastwood’s masterpiece which is impressive from a man
with so many great films under his belt. He shines both in front and
behind the camera in this drama featuring a female boxer. The only one
of these top ten best fight films to do so.
Top 10 Best Fight Films – Million Dollar Baby
4 Warrior
Warrior is a recent entry and one that exceeded most people’s expectations. The film is at once a great action film
and a
perfect drama featuring a dysfunctional family in an MMA contest. It
has two protagonists, countless fights and brilliant choreography. It
ticks all the boxes and hits all the cliches but still manages to be
fresh and by the end it’s uncertain who you’re even meant to be routing
for.
Top 10 Best Fight Films – Warrior
3 Raging Bull
One of the more ‘serious’ dramas amount these top ten best fight
films. In this one DeNiro is on top form in a biopic of a real fighter,
and perhaps most impressive is the way he transforms his body several
times throughout.
Top 10 Best Fight Films – Raging Bull
2 Rocky Balboa
People thought that Stallone was mad to make another Rocky when he
announced plans for a sixth entry to the series, but that was part of
what made Rocky Balboa work. Almost biographic, the film marked a
brilliant come back for Stallone, but also one of the top 10 fight
scenes in its own right – and a film that can get you cheering for the
lead like no other.
Top 10 Best Fight Films – Rocky Balboa
1 Rocky
But the absolute classic has to of course be the original Rocky. From
the first introduction to the unusual and loveable character, to the
first time that a training montage was used so effectively, to the first
time you hear Bill Conti’s incredible track – this was destined to be a
classic and inspired a legion of real life fighters.

As 2013 gets underway, here's a look at the ten tallest skyscrapers
set to complete around the globe this year (+ interactive image).
This list includes four towers in China, a Abu Dhabi complex by
Foster + Partners and North Korea's infamous "Hotel of Doom".
Surprisingly, Renzo Piano's The Shard wasn't tall enough to make the list.
1. Eton Place Dalian Tower 1 - 383 metres
The highest building scheduled to finish in 2013 is the 383-metre
tower of Eton Place Dalian (above), a mixed-use complex for the city in
north-east China. Designed by architects NBBJ,
the glazed skyscraper is yet to reach full height, but once complete it
will become one of the top twenty tallest buildings in the world.
2. The Domain - 381 metres
London firm Foster + Partners
is in second place with apartment block The Domain, the largest of
three towers nearing completion on the site of the old Central Market in
Abu Dhabi (above). The building topped out at 381 metres in 2012 and
forms part of a larger masterplan for the Aldar Central Market, which
also incorporates shopping centre The Souk.

3. JW Marriott Marquis Hotel tower two - 355 metres
In third position is a tower at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in Dubai, by Archgroup Consultants.
The first of the hotel's two skyscrapers was completed in 2012 and
stands at 355 metres, making it the tallest hotel in the world. At
exactly the same height, tower number two will follow this year and was
designed to mirror its partner (above).
4. Chongqing World Financial Centre - 339 metres
The second building on our list from China is the Chongqing World
Financial Centre (above), a 73-storey office tower under construction in
the nation's third-largest city. The skyscraper has not topped out but
is set to have a height of 339 metres, making it the fourth tallest
building due to finish in 2013.
5. Mercury City Tower - 339 metres
6. Modern Media Centre - 332 metres
The sixth tallest skyscraper to complete in 2013 will be the Modern
Media Centre in Changzhou (above), with a height of 332 metres. The
building will contain 57 floors to accommodate production facilities for
television, film, animation and radio.
7. Ryugyong Hotel - 330 metres
North Korea's notorious Ryugyong Hotel (above) is finally due to
complete in 2013, 24 years behind schedule, and takes seventh place on
our list. Nicknamed the "Hotel of Doom", the 330-metre pyramidal
building in Pyongyang was first under construction in 1987. Building
work stopped in 1992 after the collapse of the Soviet Union placed the
city in an economic crisis and didn't resume until 2008.
8. Al Yaqoub Tower - 328 metres
The eighth building on our list is the Al Yaqoub Tower (above), a
328-metre apartment and hotel building for Dubai. Designed by UAE firm Eng. Adnan Saffarini,
the building is set to become the world's second-tallest clock tower,
only surpassed by the Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel in Mecca.
9/10. The Landmark and Deji Plaza phase two - 324 metres
Ninth position is shared between two buildings; the mixed-use Landmark tower in Dubai Abu Dhabi by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects
(above) and an office tower rising up over the Deji Plaza shopping
centre in Nanjing, China (below). Both towers have a height of 324
metres, but the former features a curved profile while the latter has a
rectilinear form.
22 reported dog bite related human fatalities in the United
States in 2004.
2005 - 29 human fatalities.
2006 - 26.
In 2007, there were 33 human fatalities. 45% of the attacks
occurred to adults over the age of 18, and 55% occurred to ages below.
Pit bull type dogs were responsible for 67% of fatalities, the next
closest breed was the rottweiler at 12%. But all dog breeds are potentially dangerous. In 2000, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported that 25 breeds of dogs were involved in 238 fatal dog bites from 1979-1998. Here it is the compiled list of the most dangerous dog breeds:
1. Pit Bulls (Weight: 55-65 lbs.)
Pit
bull is one of the most brave and dauntless dogs that usually takes on
any opponent. Therefore they take part in dog fighting. It is common
knowledge that this dog breed can even mangle the human to death as pit
bull locks its jaws onto the booty until it is dead. |
2. Rottweilers (Weight: 100-130 lbs.)
Due to their intense territorial instinct these dogs are very aggressive. Rottweilers are commonly used as guard dogs. |
3. German Shepherds (Weight: 70-100 lbs.)

breed of dogs is known as a smart and vigilant one. As German
Shepherds proved to be confident and fearless local authorities such as
the police K-9 unit use German Shepherds as a police dog.
|
4. Huskies (Weight: 44-66 lbs.)
Despite
of their energy and intelligence this breed is not regarded a good
guard dog. It is caused by its kind temperament and personality
characteristics. However it should be marked that between 1979 and 1997
fifteen fatal cases were caused by huskies. |
5. Alaskan Malamutes (Weight: 75-100 lbs.)
This
breed requires a lot of exercises to be happy as being bored they
become disobedient. On the whole their characteristic features are
energy and activity. |
6. Doberman Pinschers (Weight: 65-90 lbs.)
Doberman
Pinschers are famed by such features as alertness, intelligence and
loyalty. Therefore they are considered to be one of the best guard dog
breeds. The dog usually attacks only in case its family is in danger or
when being provoked.
|
7. Chow Chow (Weight: 50-70 lbs.)
The
Chow Chow seems to be distant and independent, however they require
staunch attention. If badly bred they can become aggressive dogs. |
8. Presa Canario ( Weight: 80-115 lbs.)
It
is well known that an attack of this guard dog can bring to the death
any prey. One of the main features of this dog is fearlessness, huge
power and man-stopping ability.
|
9. Boxer (Weight: 50-70 lbs.)
These
dogs are intelligent, frisky and full of energy. It is not so easy to
train them as they are self-willed breed. In addition, boxers are not
typically aggressive by nature.
|
10. Dalmatian (Weight: 40-70 lbs.)
This
breed is distinguished by intelligence and perfect memory,
independence and survival instincts. Sometimes Dalmatians can be
aggressive towards people.
|
- For each US dog bite fatality there are about 670
hospitalizations and 16,000 emergency room visits, 21,000 other medical
visits (office and clinic), and 187,000 non-medically treated bites
- 46.1% (nearly half) of dog bite injuries were triaged in emergency rooms as "urgent-emergent"
- Dog bites are the second highest reason why children seek emergency treatment
That's about 60,000 bites per fatality and that information
is dated. It is reported today that a US citizen is bitten by a dog
every 75 seconds.
