Beckham backs passionate England to spring a surprise at Euro 2012
David Beckham insists it is not simply patriotism that fuels his belief that injury-ravaged and under-rated England can still make a positive impact on the European Championship.
Beckham, at Wembley on Saturday to collect a commemorative cap from UEFA for being one of only five men to have played more than 100 times for England, is never shy of mentioning ‘my country’, whether he is talking about England’s hopes at Euro 2012, his pride in Britain as a royalist on this Jubilee weekend, or his excitement at the prospect of the London Olympics being staged in his native East End.
